Copy editing
Copy editing is where an editor checks a manuscript for clarity, conciseness, and consistency. This stage occurs after the manuscript has gone through the previous stages of developmental (substantive) editing and line editing. Here, I will be copy editing your novel in Word, Google Docs, or Adobe Acrobat using while Track Comments. I will also be creating a style sheet for your novel, which you can also have at the end of the project if you like!
For copy editing, I will be checking for a list of the following:
- Word choice
- Style and consistency
- Spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors
- Fact accuracy – whether fictional or nonfictional
- Clarity
The total cost of each project will be based on a per-word rate (going by the standard 250-word page) and on what level of copy editing needed for the manuscript.
Light/Medium copy editing: 1.7 cents/word
Heavy copy editing: 2.3 cents/word
Rewriting will not be included for a light or medium copyedit, as that crosses over into line editing. For heavier copyedits, rewriting may be included but only if you specifically request for it.
Proofreading
Proofreading is similar to copy editing in that proofreading checks for the same things. However, the difference is that proofreading happens after the copy edits and formatting, and it serves as a last chance to catch any mistakes missed before your novel goes through for publication. So I will be looking for any last minute errors that the previous copyeditor did not catch.

Sample Edits
With no charge, I can provide you a sample edit of 1500 words so that you get a feel for how I work with your manuscript, and to see if you’re comfortable with the way I edit and provide comments.
